New Plymouth Airport Fire Station Upgrade

GDS was engaged to upgrade the appliance bay access at the New Plymouth Airport Fire Station, replacing the existing ageing manual sliding door system with a modern, fully motorised sectional overhead door solution.

The existing doors were manually operated, stacked to one side when opened, and had deteriorated significantly due to corrosion.
The complete existing door system was removed to make way for a new purpose-built system designed to improve access, safety and operational efficiency for emergency response vehicles.
Aluminium sash frame door construction with a mix of clear glazed panels and solid aluminium infills and all hardware powdercoated for optimum protection against the elements due to the close proximity to the coast line.

The project included the supply and installation of all required structural components and three new motorised sectional overhead doors,
creating three dedicated fire appliance bay openings, along with a new personnel access (PA) door.

Each sectional door was fitted with motorised operation, traffic light signalling, safety beams and remote controls, providing safe, reliable and convenient operation for fire station personnel and appliance movements.

All structural works, doors, automation, safety systems, installation and commissioning were completed by GDS installers, providing a fully integrated and operational solution.

• Removal and disposal of the existing rusted manual sliding doors
• Supply and installation of all required supporting structure
• Supply and installation of 3 × motorised sectional overhead doors
• Creation of 3 × dedicated fire appliance bay openings
• Supply and installation of 1 × PA door entry
• Installation of traffic light signalling systems
• Installation of safety beams
• Provision and programming of remote controls
• Electrical setup, testing and commissioning of the new door systems

The completed upgrade transformed the appliance bay access from an ageing manual sliding system into a modern, motorised and safety-integrated solution,
providing improved reliability, ease of operation and safer vehicle movements for the New Plymouth Airport Fire Station.
