LARGE SPAN

Information

At Glideaway Doors we have designed and developed one of the easiest and secure systems for large span openings with our range of Sectional overhead doors.

Main features of our large span doors:

  • Secure and robust construction
  • Bird and rodent proof
  • Doors and mullions can be easily hand operated, reducing overall cost
  • Weight on beam over lintel is considerably reduced compared to roller doors, thus allowing for light building construction
  • Custom built to your requirements
  • Installation arranged throughout New Zealand
  • Doors park up inside the building. No stack space required outside as with sliding doors
  • Large span doors designed to meet your requirements, i.e. 14-15m wide span.

We can supply a single large span door, or alternatively, multiple doors and a central aluminium mullion to provide clear span openings of almost any width. Special removable mullion systems are available.

Each system is custom engineered by Glideaway to meet the structural requirements of the building. These doors can be operated by hand, due to the spring balance system. Doors can be chain hoist or electronically operated if required.

 Three mullion systems are available:

1. Removable, lift-out and stack.

The carry away post is made of a lightweight aluminium with steel track for use in multiple door installations where a clear span is required. Automatic devices prevent lowering of doors and operation of motor when mullion is removed. Not recommended for openings over 3.6M high. Minimum headroom required of 550mm.

2. Sliding.

The mullion is top track mounted and slides to one side of the opening. The mullion is aluminium constructed with steel tracks attached. These are suited best for larger installations. Automatic devices prevent lowering of doors and operation of motor when the mullion is removed. Mullion post is designed to meet structural requirements. Minimum headroom required of 550mm.

3. Swing-up type.

An aluminium mullion is mounted on a pivoting arm above the door lintel and is either balanced using gas stays or is hand operated by a winch, although motorisation is also available. The mullion swings across the opening and parks above the lintel. It does not swing back into the building or reduce opening width. Minimum headroom required of approximatly 1000mm in centre of door opening.

Each panel of our large span door is designed to be supported with strong backs which range in size from 60mm to 300mm deep. These are attached to the panel to provide structural strength to allow spans of up to 17.5m in one width.

When the large span door is closed the door weight is on the floor. In the open position, the door weight is distributed evenly through the building structure. This eliminates the loading on the door lintel and alllows for less expensive construction methods.
